You can find their ads in any Computer Shopper magazine. The parallel cable is Amiga 1000 specific. Do not connect a generic parallel cable to the 1000, you may kill something. As far as the serial cable goes, I have both a midi interface and a modem connected to my A1000 with a $5.00 generic serial cable, but I had to change the gender of the port. It works for me, but I would suggest you check into the serial cable further -- It's better to be sure. I think that there could be some kind of difference because the manual that came with my modem said that it "auto-configures" to any serial port, and a different sort of periferal might not work.
