Subject: How to close an aborted file?

On occasion I will be downloading a text file from the mainframe
when my ration time on the mainframe will expire and my download
will be cut off before completing.  I figure the text downloaded
to that point will be on the disk somewhere; the file is there
in the directory but is 0 bytes long.  If I make sure not to
save anything else to the disk (and thus not overwrite the data)
is there a way to recover the text?  Nothing I have tried has
worked.  Thanks for any help!
