This is true to a certain degree. You will of course need a SCSI card (I recommend either Apple High Speed SCSI or RAMFast SCSI), and you will have to do your own formatting. You might check out hard drives from mail-order Macintosh companies; some of their prices are really low and it's fairly easy (so I understand) to reconfigure for the GS. As for myself, I have a 40 MB Vulcan (internal) that I bought used for $400. I've had no complaints with it.
