Host software would also be useful... Don't know of anything extant, but have you looked at Phil Karn's KA9Q? Together with the SLIP driver from Clarkson Univ it should offer the capabilities you desire (not sure about Rlogin and Rshell tho'). Source for both items is available. KA9Q doesn't appear to do anything fancy with the screen, keyboard or disk. You would have to muck with the packet driver, as it's written with the 8250 UART in mind. NL> I guess that this is the reason that Rainbow is fading so rapidly, NL> "Lack NL> of Intrest"! Generally, it's up to the sysop to get the initial files on his BBS. Mine came from one of the DECUS tapes. If you have a DECUS tape librarian in your area (typically associated with a VAX), you might check to see if there is some way you can download all the MS-DOS files from him. Those files came with a FILES.BBS file (or equivalent), so you will have a readily-usable listing of file names and descriptions. You are of course welcome to d/l whatever you want from the Silver Bullet, and I will throw in the FILES.BBS; but of course you will incur LD charges. - --- msged 1.99L MSC * Origin: Silver Bullet - Silver Spring, Md. - 301-622-2247 (1:109/417) ------------------------------ Date: 21 Apr 91 08:19 -0500 From: DON MARQUART To: NOLAN LEE Subject: LACK OF INTEREST > Wow, I made a plea for Rainbow shareware and freeware to add a Bos specific > section to my BBS and didn't even get the first comment. Hmmm, seems like I did respond to your message. As the BBS was recently shut down here after several years of operation if you have the capabilities to read HD IBM disks I will make a copy of the Rainbow section for you. You would need to send about 30 meg(?) worth of disks for the copies and allow enough time for me to restore the section from tape. Just finished giving Warner a "shopping bag" full of Rainbow stuff to start his section. I also do not want to see support for RB die. Will probably put the RB section up for file request only from this system as soon as time permits. > I guess that this is the reason that Rainbow is fading so rapidly, "Lack > of Intrest"! > > Well, at least I made an attempt. :-) Maybe you never received the replies... For the person who asked about doing FTP to dial-up sites, I'd like to learn how myself; I've been trying to get information about it for quite a while [over a year] now. There are two places that I know of; I have never called either one because until recently I did not have a UUCP [or the UUPC clone] to do FTP transfers. There are two that I know of: GRAPE at 315-268-6667 and the public one that is put out by UUNET technologies, 1-900-GOT-SRCS. Grape is free other than long distance charges, UUNET is 40c/minute. I would also suggest - which the literature for the UUNET connection does - to use 9600 baud due to the charge. One point it made was that the entire X-Windows sources could be downloaded from this number for about $300, less than the distribution tape. Or for $10 you could get the GCC compiler. I'd rather try a lower cost one than this, myself. Also, uunet sells a tape of almost everything: All the Internet RFCs [14 meg], the GAMES archives [30 meg], one of the X-Windows source distributions [20 meg], the Free Software collection [20 meg], and all the Berkley sources that don't require an AT&T License. Around $370 for 3 tapes of 6250 BPI and everything packed with COMPRESS [except COMPRESS.C, of course]. UUNET'S address is: info@uu.uunet.net if I remember correctly. The sources for the KERMIT distribution are also supposed to be available from U. of Oklahoma via a dial-up UUCP connection. Don't know what it is, though. - --- Opus-CBCS 1.14 * Origin: Silver Bullet - Silver Spring, Md - 301-622-2247 (1:109/417.0) ------------------------------ Date: 21 Apr 91 17:54 -0500 From: FRANK MALLORY To: PAUL ROBINSON Subject: RE: RAINBOW ON INTERNET? Paul, I have recently been referred to two local systems called CHADO (109/409) and HALLUC (109/345) that are supposed to furnish this capability somehow. You might try contacting them via netmail or email. - --- msged 1.99L MSC * Origin: Silver Bullet - Silver Spring, Md. - 301-622-2247 (1:109/417) ------------------------------ Date: 21 Apr 91 19:59 -0500 From: NOLAN LEE To: FRANK MALLORY Subject: LACK OF INTEREST In a message of , Frank Mallory (1:109/417) writes: FM>BBS. You're confusing FTP with uucp, at least as concerns those sites and those phone numbers. While both are file transfer protocols, they are not compatible. I say "probably" because the board seems down more often than up and I'm unsure if first-time callers get download privileges.
