I'm guessing that at least part of the problem you're
experiencing is due to the inconsistencies between the
jsc.nasa.gov name servers (see my response to, er, 
someone at JSC in a previous posting re nslookup).

That might cause, for example, inconsistent canonicalization
of the hostname.
