I once did that with a surplus PS/2 keyboard we had. I dried it with an industrial air blower (cool air). Then I waited a couple of days before plugging it. It did worked afterwards, but not reliably. It would do erractic behaviour from time to time. I did try it because I too also heard somewhere that it could be done. Well... ;-) Now what I do when I clean my keyboard is this: I take the time. I remove all the keys, then use a air duster (comes in cans) and soft clothes to wash all dirt and dust. I also wash each key before putting them back. Takes about an hour but it's worth it, on a personal basis. Be sure to take notes about where exactly the keys are before removing them.
