I assume "far from being helpful" means that IBM told you they don't support that drive in anything other than the PS/2 products it was meant to be in. The drive you have is an ESDI drive... sort of. It's supposedly been modified some way to "tweak" the performance a bit. I've heard the disk partitioning software by OnTrack systems can take one of these ESDI PS/2-type drives and use them on a "standard" ESDI controller.
