   About 1 year ago (?) I found the BEST screen saver I've seen in my life. 
It's called Dimmer, and I found it on Sumex at the time.  It's about 30K, and
all it does is dims the screen to the set level.  If you want it black, then
set it to black.  It's a no-frills program, but it's NEVER stalled or crashed
on me, and it takes very little memory.  What more could one ask!!??
