The first field (not counting the vrule) can extend onto multiple lines, so it is in a vtop. If it gets broken across lines, there is a tiny break in the vrule underneath it. I print it out at \magstephalf on a 300dpi printer, you might have to blow it up to see the problem. There is no gap after line 6, because the text is not line-broken. Please reply by mail, our news is unreliable. And I know the Cost field is blank, I don't have those figures yet. \vbox{\halign{\strut\vrule\enskip#& \vtop{\parindent=0pt\hsize=16em#}\hfil& \quad#\hfil&\quad#\hfil&\quad#\hfil&\quad#\hfil&\quad#\hfil&\quad#\hfil& \enskip\vrule#\cr \noalign{\hrule} &Task description&Month&Man-&\multispan3 \hfil Personnel \hfil&Cost&\cr &&&months&AU&CE&SE&\hfil\$&\cr \noalign{\hrule} &1. Anyone have a nonsexist way to say "man-months" which sounds better than "person-months"? (e.g. "manpower" can be replaced with "personnel" without sounding clumsy).
