No, the purpose of the SPARCstation is to sell Sun computers. :-) Really, the 88open consortium is way ahead of MIPS, SPARC International, Intel, ACE, et al, in creating platform and application standards which enable shrink-wrapped UNIX software which is independent of hardware and system architecture. This isn't to say that the new OS/2 will or will not be successful, or anything else for that matter. It's just a plug for 88open and a slam for SPARC. :-)
