Summary: How to reset article number Keywords: cnews Message-ID: <1991Apr25.122242.1179@ioe.lon.ac.uk> Date: 25 Apr 91 12:22:42 GMT Article-I.D.: ioe.1991Apr25.122242.1179 Organization: Institute of Education, University of London Lines: 26 (Apologies to those who have seen this request - I got my distribution wrong the first time around) We have a problem with relaynews - it reports errors (many!) about an article number being too large (100000) for the max field of 5 digits. This has affected the junk newsgroup (possible overflow of articles with bad newsgroups?) Anyway, it wouldn't go beyond 99999. All the articles have now been expired but /usr/lib/news/sys still has 99999 as the last article number. How do we reset this - isn't it normally done automatically? I don't have my original sources online so it isn't easy to check. I'd be very grateful for any clues - Thanks. Lindsay PS we run Cnews 6.4 but not very up to date with patches. Could this be the problem? -- JANET: law@uk.ac.lon.ioe | Lindsay Wakeman EARN/BITNET: law%ioe.lon.ac.uk@ukacrl.bitnet | Institute of Education INTERNET:law%ioe.lon.ac.uk@nsfnet-relay.ac.uk | 20 Bedford Way London WC1H OAL UUCP: !mcvax!ukc!educ-isis!law | VOICE +44 71 636 1500 ext.512
