Well, my guess is that quick oneshot kills are a lot more important in deer hunting than in battle. If the deer can run for 5 minutes after being shot, you are not happy. However, in a battle, most people who get shot in the guts are likely to stop fighting immediately. Later on, they either die or become a burden on their army (at least while they recover).
