Lines: 26 Approved: hunting@osnome.che.wisc.edu I'm interested in purchasing a .22 semiautomatic rifle to be used to learn how to shoot. I'm totally new to the sport and initially I'd be using it at range. I've shot a gun just a few times in my life and don't currently have a desire to become an expert marksman. I want to feel comfortable with a rifle and maybe in the long run I'll do some hunting. A friend recommended a Ruger 10/22 as a good gun to start with. Is a Ruger 10/22 a good choice to start with ? Does anyone have any experience with the Ruger ? Someone told me it has a tendency to jam. Is this common in semiauto rifles or less expensive semiautomatics or just in the Ruger 10/22 (if true) ? What are other good choices for a rifle that would fit my needs ? What are the laws in New York State regarding purchasing/owning/trasporting/ hunting with a semiautomatic rifle ? I live about 50 miles north of New York City. Does anyone know of any good ranges to shoot at or gun clubs in this area ? Thanks in advance ! Gary Kanterman kanterman@camb.com
