I also must admit to not understanding your comment about the lack of a coordinate system. For example, coding sequences are clearly annotated in the features table and one can extract these subsequences from an entry while also carrying along the annotations which refer to their position in the original sequence. What do you mean by the lack of a coordinate system??? As to writing software for the user's request, GenBank is not in a position to produce analysis software (except for the production of the GenPept database). Dave
