His getty was hanging after entering the user id and ps showed ':'s for the process running. I have had this same problem off and on since I installed the new getty package. The really strange thing is that it only happens once in a while. The next time I boot up all is fine. Since I am running getty on all my tty's (including the virtual consoles) I am unable to log in at all, but the map key shows the same ':' process running and nothing much else. Has anyone else noticed this? I really like the flexibility of the init / inittab / getty in this package but it is a real problem if it is going to hang like this. My current setup is: Generic 386 running Minix 1.5(ph) with shoelace to boot, 4 virtual consoles, shared text segment support, nice scheduling, the init / getty package from plains and increased super blocks, inodes and processes in the kernel. Everything works great when getty doesn't hang. Pete Borders : BITNET
