As soon as I took out the uugetty on the internal modem's tty my system quit hanging. I haven't had very much luck with getting getty (or uugetty) to handle the modem correctly. It may be (probably is) my modem, which is an older internal 2400 baud modem. I have a friend who is using the exact same software setup but with a new everex external modem and his works fine. The other person who had a similar problem may want to try a different modem, or disable the modem and see if everything else works. That is what I did and it was obviously the modem's problem. As an aside, does anyone have any information on setting up a modem with getty (or uugetty) for remote logins and for use as a dial out port? I would like to have the remote login feature but with only one modem, I still need to dial out to my mainframe. Anyone up to a short tutorial? Thanks again. Pete Borders : BITNET
