	Well, with some good advice from Don Nichols, I pulled off a 
new /bin/ld from my development set disks.  Unfortunately, THIS ld was
the 'bad' one!  After playing around a bit, I was able to pull a 'good'
ld off of the 3.51 foundation set, and everything works now.

I still don't know why the ld on my development set is bad.  It's about
20K shorter than the one on the foundation set.

Anyway, everything works great now.  Many thanks to a number of people,
especially Kris Kugel and Don Nichols.
