A beholder doesn't cast anything, all of his spell attacks are natural to him. His eye stalks automatically produce the spell, as such, even if you hit him, the beholder will be able to use all of his attacks against you. I must agree however to the first statement. You don't need to kill the beholder corps to win the game.
