I assume, because it's the only way your statements seem at all likely, that (a) you're using Suns, (b) you're using the OpenWindows server, and (c) you're using the suntools cmdtool instead of the XView cmdtool. One of the problems with the hacks Sun has done to allow you to get X and suntools windows on the same screen is that all the suntools windows are always in front of all the X windows. This may be a bit of a pain, but it's a lot better than having to switch window systems entirely, and it would, I understand, be a major pain to fix. (Think of it as a good reason to get away from running suntools programs!
