A year or two ago I decided to upgrade my equipment. At first I thought I'd go out and buy some of the better old equipment that I lusted after years before. But when I actually found some and listened, they were incredibly and amazingly bad! Even the lowest end of the high end sounded much, much better. With a low budget, I ended up being adequately satisfied with an Adcom GFA-535. The difference between it and the old stock Dynacos (tube models included) was unbelievable.
