Thursday, 1 May, 1941

German troops complete the occupation of Greece.

The German air raids switch targets, fixing on Liverpool.  Businesses,
residential areas, and dock yards are all hit.  Several ships in the port
are sunk or damaged.

The British government names Lord Moore-Brabazon as Minister of Aircraft
Production, and combines the Ministries of Shipping and Transport into the
Ministry of War Transport.  Lord Beaverbrook, Brabazon's predecessor, is
made Minister of State.

Iraqi troops conduct a minor attack against the British garrison at Rutba,
west of Baghdad, and strengthen their encirclement of Habbaniyah airfield
with 28 artillery pieces.
