At a local trade show I visited the Canon booth. They have faxes with an optional RS232 Interface. These are `standalone' fax machines. I asked for programming information and got a booklet a couple of days later. It seems to be fairly simple (XON-XOFF, up to 19200baud) to use. I dont have the booklet here, but you can do the following things: - send faxes in ascii or one of several bitmap formats - use the fax as a scanner and read in bitmap - use the fax as an ascii printer Personally, I'd prefer this setup over a fax card or a fax modem. A fax card or modem without a scanner is pretty useless as you cant even receive, say, a contract, sign it, and return it. If somebody is interested, I'll dig out the booklet and post more exact information. - michael
