Message-ID: <3547@edinboro.edu> Date: 1 May 91 13:31:32 GMT Organization: Edinboro University of Pennsylvania Lines: 19 Hello all... I had a couple of questions concerning modem trouble. A friend of mine recently purchased a Smart One 2400 baud external modem and for some reason cannot connect to some other modems. He has no difficulty connecting to the VAX at any baud rate, yet he cannot connect to any other modem (either directly or through a bulletin board) at 2400 baud and can periodically connect to some modems at 1200. What is most interesting is that he can at any time connect at 300 baud to anywhere! For this reason, it seems that their must be some compatability problems with modem pitches. Aren't there two or three different standards for the 1200/2400 pitches? I don't believe the problem is within the terminal programs...several have been tried on numerous different settings including the settings that work on my system. Thanks for any light you can shed on this matter!! connors@edinboro.edu
