It's good points are that it now supports X and colour quite well and is reasonably device independent, it also has some good utilities for mapping plots onto different coordinate systems, and it's cheap. The bad news is it's inefficient, has some horrible pre 70's fortran code, no decent font support and is a bugger to program with. If youv'e got some money have a look at PV-WAVE, or if you want to do scientific visualization stuff apE2.1, or Khoros (new version should be out by now).
