The Forth Interest Group has, in my view, three main missions:

	1) To popularize and publicize Forth and to aid beginning
	and intermediate Forth programmers in acquiring an
	understanding of Forth and basic Forth skills.

	2) To serve as a central contact point for the entire Forth
	community.

	3) To serve as lobbyist and advocate for the interests of the
	Forth programmer.

In pursuit of its mission, the Forth Interest Group must find a way
to finance its activities that does not involve a spiralling upward
of membership costs. Since FIG is primarily aimed at the novice, high
membership costs are self-defeating.

FIG is moving forward under the new president, John D. Hall and vice
president, Dr. C.H. Ting, and the editorial skills of an "unchained"
Marlin Ouverson to refurbish and restore "FORTH Dimensions" magazine
and to bring back the advertisers that were chased away in previous
years. I fully support this process and other innovative steps to
restore the confidence of the vendor community in the Forth Interest
Group.

As FIG Chapter Coordinator, I hope to work closely with all the local
chapters in maintaining and enhancing their status as the primary
means of transmission of Forth knowledge. As is well known, we cannot
depend on universities or books to train new Forth porgrammers. For the
majority of newcomers to Forth, an active FIG chapter nearby is the only
gateway to the idiosyncratic Forth universe.

As a Forth Interest Group Board member, I will cooperate with all efforts
to place and maintain FIG on a sound financial footing so that its historic
mission in the programming community continues to be carried out.
