Summary: 4DOS does >11-character file descriptions-view with DIR Message-ID: <1991May5.140031.8805@uncecs.edu> Date: 5 May 91 14:00:31 GMT References: <2179@raybed2.msd.ray.com> <1991Mar28.165528.10989@ccad.uiowa.edu> <1991May4.194920.16850@netcom.COM> Distribution: usa Organization: UNC Educational Computing Service Lines: 11 4DOS allows 40 character descriptions which can be viewed with a simple DIR comman. The descriptions move with the file, although they are actually held in a separate file. It's pretty seamless. DIRNOTES (PCMag free program) and Extend-a-Name (commercial program) also give long file descriptions, but you use a separate command to view these. -- Michael Volow, Psychiatry, Durham VA Med Center, Durham NC 27712 919 286 0411 Ext 6933 mvolo@ecsvax.edu
