The bane of MultiFinder is the dreaded "low memory global"... used by many programs because it was all that was available for a long time, and will continue to be used because (a) not all the lmg's have been changed into system calls and (b) many recent OS versions still require ones that are going to be phased out e.g. when System 7 comes out. (...two years late...) Most Mac programs don't do that much direct-to-hardware stuff, because the correct Toolbox calls are generally easier to use and are sufficiently fast. (And the majority of programs that break when a new OS release comes out are (a) games (sound familiar?) and (b) programs developed by companies that keep trying to turn the Mac into an inferior PC (Microsoft and A-T).) Apple's biggest problem is that you have to pay a couple of thousand to get a machine that has something vaguely resembling the features of the A500... and that's an *improvement* on their part. Bleeagh. (Note: Since the beginning of the year I've been toying with the idea of dumping out $1500 to upgrade my Mac SE to an SE/30. Now I'm about halfway toward spending that same amount on an A2000 instead. The other half will come when I can actually play with one and see what it's like "in person". Yeah, so with the SE/30 I'd have a faster processor... with a lot less expansion ability. And Apple's bloody attitude.) ++Brandon (P.S. Hey, C=, if you're willing to consider an upgrade offer from Mac to Amiga, you may have a buyer. :-) -- Me: Brandon S.
