I've done it before. 'course, I ruined the power pack in the process.  Not
because of the fact that it can't be done, but because of the fact that I
was using very mickey-moused connections.  It was a hack, but it worked.
If you try it, make sure all the connections are clean and are in no risk
or short circuiting.
