I haven't got any comments about a PIM but I've used an old Toshiba T1000
(IBM PC Clone) for note taking a lot.  My favorite note taking software is
PC Outline.  It's fast enough even on the 4mhz T1000, it's small enough to 
fit in the RAM drive, and my note taking style is well suited to producing
an outline.
