I think the Mac needs some stuff added to the beginning of a GIF file before you can view it. I'm not sure because I don't own a Mac, but I've seen programs that strip this stuff off so you can view Mac-viewable GIFs on other systems. I've crossposted to comp.sys.mac.misc in the hope that someone there can give an authoritative answer: What's the correct, full procedure for transferring GIF files from a uuencoded file to a format viewable on the Mac? -- John H.
