Lines: 18 I've posted this bit to the NeXT-L before, so if this ends up a duplicate post, please excuse me. Those of you with NeXT fax modems may have noticed that NeXT's "illegal character stripper" is quite agressive. Basically, all non-numeric, non-comma characters are removed from the field before sending it to the modem. Needless to say, this makes it quite difficult to send "w" for a dialtone wait, or "*" and "#", both legal phone dialing characters. This usually isn't much of a problem unless you happen to be sharing a phone line with the fax, and the phone line has call waiting. Normally, call waiting is turned off with "*70" -- but this gets stripped to "70", which doesn't work. Fortunately, there is a solution available until NeXT cleans up their dialer code: use "1170" instead of "*70", as it seems to do the same thing. --Dave Nanian, UnderWare, Inc (dnanian@uw.com, uunet!uw!dnanian, NeXT mail preferred)
