I followed Scott Hess's suggestion of deleting some innocent looking
files called "Incoming_Mail", "Incoming_Table_of_Contents" from my
Active.mbox directory and now everything works! I can finally receive
mail using Mail.app. My thanks to those who responded. My campus rep.
had forwarded this problem onto NeXT about a month ago, but NeXT
has this sensible policy of responding to problems based upon their
severity. I was expecting to hear from them about the same time
Apple ships System 8.0
