You mentioned that the network cards are set for interrupt 2, which is used by some EGA and VGA cards. You might try setting the network card for interrupt 3 if you don't need COM2: or interrupt 5 if you don't need LPT2:. Don't forget to change the workstation shell to reflect the interrupt change.
