Forgot to mention that WIN3 appears to consume the extended memory.
Machine boots, notice a msg from smartdrv indicating 0 extended mem 
available.  Norton SI shows 6656kb extended memory, start windows,
notice it came up in real mode w/o extended memory, exit windows,
Norton no longer shows any extended memory.

Very strange...
