It's normally served with pita bread as an appetiser. It definitely contains garlic and I've been told that the main ingredient is mashed (or pureed) chick peas. I tried mashing some cooked chick peas, adding a couple of cloves of minced garlic and thinning the result with olive oil and water to the right consistency but there is something missing.
