Thanks to all the people who took time to answer my query about the
definition of little endian vs. big endian.  To date, I have received
about 6 MB of mail on the subject, and on the matter of why one
is normal and the other perverse, including some rather long 
excerpts from "Gulliver's Travels"  You can stop now, I am
suitably enlightened.
