I would be very interested in hearing about any progress you make
on this.  We have just aquired two of these "Smart One?" modems
and am having difficulty getting them to answer reliably from
other brands.

They dial out and connect faithfully to other brands, and to each
other.  The problem is getting them to answer calls from other
brands reliably.  I believe the problem involves their error
checking protocol something.bis.  I think they are trying to
establish a bis connection with the calling modem by sending
sounds that are confusing dumber modems.

I have good luck connecting to them if I use one of our Multitech
696E, I think because the MT is smart enough to recognize the
error protocol signals.

I would like to be able to turn this checking off with an S
register or AT command, but could find nothing in TFM referring
to this.
