(among others...I believe the NCSA people use the same spec.) so DesqView/X will be talking to a piece of driver software from a 3rd party but the spec for the interface is available and supported by multiple vendors. SLIP is generally among the supported "devices". On the other hand; 9600 baud Xwindows is not particuarly pleasant to use.
