Remember, that there are more of the "other people" that use OS/2 than hackers, and these "other people" want good performance from their machine. 30 seconds to a business executive is a lifetime to him/her and if it came down to choosing between one system that saved him/her 30 seconds EVERY TIME THEY USED THEIR APPLICATIONS and another system, they will GUARANTEED choose the former.
