I happen to use it all the time. However it seems certain versions extend the decompressed files to intergral block size (or something like that somebody said once) and that sometimes causes some binary files to be corrupted. An example is MLDL by Jan Brittenson. Some people have reported that the uuencode version when downloaded to their machine gives an invalid card data and then clears the port.
