R. S. T. , Trento - Italy Lines: 36 I have a PC with a Quantum 40 AT harddisk (40MB, IDE controller) and now I would like to install a second harddisk, a second hand Miniscribe 8051A (40 MB IDE controller, dated Jan 1990), but I have no documentation on jumper settings. The documentation for the controller card says that it supports 2 floppies and 2 harddisks, the cable, 40 pin non-twisted with 2 connectors, is ok, the cmos setup has the 2 harddisks configured, but when I switch on the PC, or it waits for a very long time before issuing an error message, or it hangs completely, depending on the jumper settings. The Quantum has 2 jumpers, named DS and SS, with this meaning (I believe): DS short, SS open unique drive, this is current setting DS short, SS short master drive DS open, SS open slave drive The Miniscribe has a group of 10 pins, with a jumper between 1 and 3: 10 8 6 4 2 o o o o o o o o X==X 9 7 5 3 1 With these settings I am able to install either one of the two drives but not both. I would like to know how to configure the Miniscribe as secondary harddisk and if the settings for the Quantum are correct. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
