That's exactly the point. If there is going to be any technical advancement in wireless LANs and wireless communication, something like this has to happen. If you don't jump through the hoops now, you don't get any neat toys to play with a couple years down the road. The Apple lawyers involved in this project are actually helping the technoids; they're doing all the groundwork so that the engineers can ship wireless products without being tossed into jail for illegal use of the airwaves.
