Symptoms: First noted problem when system began repeatedly restarting. Shut down when I noticed a curl of smoke coming out of the vents above the analog board. Since then, I've bought Pina's _Macintosh Repair Secrets_, and tried checking voltages, resistances, looking for scorch marks etc. The behaviour doesn't seem to be covered in the book: when the voltage is turned low enough to avoid the flub-flub-flub sound made by the the overvoltage protection circuit, the disc drive repeatedly (about 3-4 times a second) tries to eject a disc. Blank screen, no startup bong. Does anyone have any suggestions about what is wrong, or what it'll take to fix it? -- --- Tim Smith --- timsmith@dtoa1.dt.navy.mil ---- (301)227-1611 --- --- Code 1522, David Taylor Research Center, Bethesda, MD 20084 --- ---------- I don't get paid enough to speak for the Navy. ----------
