Subject: How do you write-protect a folder??

I guess the subject about says it all.  What I want to be able to do is 
set a folder with some apps that I want locked (so that they can't be
trashed) and write-protect the folder afterwards so that nothing else
can be put into the folder.
Any ideas on a small app I could write??
