An apparently related item: I note that the battery for a 2-3 yr old Panasonic
camcorder (about 1"x2 1/2"x7 1/4") is rated 12v-2Ah and stays about room temp.
 The new Panasonic uses a battery rated the same, but is physically shorter
(about 5 1/2").  It gets hot both in use and recharge.  Of course, it's handy
for the user due to reduced size/weight - and presumably handy for the
manufacturer due to shortened life.
