The A-10 did operate at night in the Gulf. The April 22 issue of Aviation Week reports that A-10's used imaging infrared Maverick missiles and thus were able to indentify and destroy tanks at night. (page 46). There have been proposals to install FLIR systems on A-10's, but they have not reached production. An installed FLIR would likely make the A-10 more effective at night as the proposed systems are more sensitive, have a wider field of view, and have higher resolution than the Maverick seekers.
