To learn more about ICAI, I would recommend reading some of the works of Bill Clancey, presently at the Inst. of Research on Learning, in Palo Alto, California. John Anderson has also done a lot of work in this area with a LISP tutor, which can be purchased in addition to a book on LISP (whose title escapes me) which he wrote. Clancey also wrote a book "Knowledge-Based Tutoring: The GUIDON Program." in 1987. You may want to look at the book "Foundations of Intelligent Tutoring Systems" by Polson and Richardson (1988).
