Anyone who wishes to assist in a beta test of GNU tar 1.10, please get
it from prep.ai.mit.edu (as tar-1.10beta.tar.Z).  It has some new
features, but the manual is somewhat out of date (to say the least).
The README documents all the new features (or should).  There will be
a real release in a bit after bugs in the beta distribution are ironed
out.  Bug reports for the beta version should be sent to
mib@gnu.ai.mit.edu.
