But that's not important right now. Of these, several replies and repeat customers (including the notable emittings of Mr. Furman). Who's here? Approximately 45 souls, unless some have since passed on. So, with a sense of reverence and awe from this rarified congregation, I make my humble introduction. My name is Peter Brown. I live in Toronto. I am 43 years old. I am not a computer professional (or any other type for that matter). My interest is hobbyist, dilettente. I've owned an XT for a couple of years. Had no prior computer experience. I've mucked about with GwBasic. Glanced at C and assembly language. I've had a modem since only earlier this year. I happened on Forth while shopping for a public domain compiler in the CompuServe IBM Programming Forum. What I got there was called Full-Segment Forth. Seems like it was a beta version of F-PC, hardly any documentation. So I checked-out the CompuServe Forth Forum, hoping to get a little insight. That's where I picked up F-PC, mainly because it was so big and free. The signposts, including some advice on CompuServe, have since guided me here. The only literature that I have thus far on Forth is the book Mastering Forth. But an error on page 69 has left me disenchanted. Expect to pick up the oft-cited Starting Forth when I bump into it. With Forth, however, I'm still very much enchanted. I love the syntax. The very language itself. Much more elegant than others. And the postfix arithmetic is a dream. The whole thing stimulates the imagination. Am also enchanted with this roundtable, though I've only just begun to explore the categories and haven't really looked at the libraries yet. Several of the topics promise to hold great interest, immediately and in the future. Peter Brown ----- This message came from GEnie via willett. You *cannot* reply to the author using e-mail.
