Message-ID: <1991May16.065844.23218@cs.ucla.edu> Date: 16 May 91 06:58:44 GMT Sender: usenet@cs.ucla.edu (Mr. News Himself) Organization: UCLA Computer Science Department Lines: 21 Originator: waldorf@lanai.cs.ucla.edu Nntp-Posting-Host: lanai.cs.ucla.edu I have Minix 1.2 running on my PC 286 clone. Everything seems to work fine. I am using the hard disk and have written a few changes into the kernel for fun. For example I added the P and V operators for semaphores. But I cannot seem to get my printer to work with minix. I have tryed changing the value of the port_in call to ask if the printer is ready in the printer.c kernel code. But every time I get the same Printer not on line , printer error message. The printer works fine when I run from DOS and it is a run o the mill CITIZEN 180D printer that is plugged into the normal printer port. The BOIS is called DTK 286 version 3.16 04/16/88. I know very little about PC's and there hardware, so I am not sure what to try next. Any suggestions? Also if someone knows about a good book on 286 PC hardware that could explain some of the inner workings so that I could understand it better I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks for any help. -- Jerry
